During my college years, I discovered the worlds of illustrator Go Nagai initially through bootleg subtitled VHS tapes of
Devilman animations, and to say they had influence upon me would be understatement: I became hooked on buying imported toys of his creations which, much later, led me to the then burgeoning world of Designer Toys. So to see the creations of Go Nagai given tribute in a group exhibition is thrilling to me, especially with something like the above pictured "Sirene bloom Devilbat" by
PaulKaiju, a one-off version of his Mockbat done in the colors of Devilman with Sirene — one of the most prominent reoccurring demons in the series — emerging from his belly. Brilliant and beautiful, as always…
The "Go Nagai Tribue: Devils & Robots" group exhibition will open on June 1st, 2013 at
Q POP Shop, 128 Astronaut E S Onizuka St., Los Angeles, CA 90012.
